Verse 1
Aarti Dnyanraja | Maha Kaivalyateja |
Seviti Sadhusant | Manu Vedhla Majha || Dhru ||
Lopale Dnyan Jagi | Hit Nenti Koni |
Avatar Pandurang | Nam Thevile Dnyani || 1 ||
The refrain, printed once and marked धृ०, offers the aarti to Dnyanraja, the king of knowledge, a name for Sant Dnyaneshwar, and calls him the great radiance of kaivalya, final liberation. Saints and holy people serve him, and the singer says, 'my mind is captivated'. The first stanza says that knowledge had become hidden in the world and no one knew what was truly for their good. Pandurang, the Lord of Pandharpur, took avatar and was given the name 'Dnyani', the knower. That is the aarti's devotional way of honouring Dnyaneshwar, not a historical claim made by Valkala.
Verse 2
Kanakache Tat Kari | Ubhya Gopika Nari |
Narad Tumbaru Ho | Sam Gayan Kari || 2 ||
The second stanza pictures the aarti itself as a heavenly scene: gopika women stand holding plates of gold, and the divine singers Narada and Tumburu sing in the style of the Sama Veda. 'Ho' is a calling particle with no separate meaning. This stanza is absent from the 1955 Sakal Sant Gatha and from the posthumous edition of Bhaktimarga Pradip, which print only the first and last stanzas, so it is not sung in every tradition; the 1910 print and the Dnyandev Gatha edition include it.
Verse 3
Pragat Guhya Bole | Vishva Brahmachi Kele |
Ramajanardani | Payi Takchi Thele || 3 ||
The last stanza says that he spoke openly what had been secret and made the whole universe [known as] Brahman. Readers commonly take the first phrase to refer to Dnyaneshwar's Marathi commentary on the Gita, which put hidden teaching into the people's language; the aarti itself does not name the work. The signature follows: 'Ramajanardani', the poet, stands at his feet with an unblinking, fixed gaze (टकची ठेलें). The aarti's statements about Dnyaneshwar are devotional praise, not a promise of any result for the singer.
