Verse 1

Durge Durghat Bhari Tujvin Sansari || Anathnathe Ambe Karuna Vistari ||
Vari Vari Janma Maranate Vari || Hari Padlo Aata Sankat Nivari || 1 ||
Jaydevi Jaydevi Mahishasurmathani || Survar Ishvar Var De Tarak Sanjivani || Dhru ||

The devotee addresses Durga: without you, this worldly life (संसार) is hard to get through and heavy. O Amba, protector of those who have no protector, spread out your compassion. Ward off, ward off, ward off the round of birth and death; I have fallen into defeat, so now remove this trouble. The refrain, written in full only here and marked ध्रु०, hails the goddess as the one who crushed Mahishasura. Its second half can be read in two ways: as calling her the one who grants boons to the foremost gods and to the Lord (the 1910 reprint hyphenates it as one compound, सुर-वर-ईश्वर-वर-दे), or as a string of addresses; either way she is called तारक, the one who carries across, and संजिवनी, the one who restores life. These are the aarti's prayers and praises, not promised results.

Verse 2

Tribhuvan Bhavani Pahata Tujaishi Nahi || Chari Shramle Parantu Na Bolve Kahi ||
Sahi Vivadita Padle Pravahi || Te Tu Bhaktalagi Pavasi Lavlahi || 2 || Jay ||

Looking through the dwellings of the three worlds, there is none like you. 'The four' grew weary, yet could not put you into words, and 'the six', arguing, were swept away in the current. The text gives only the numbers; they are usually understood as the four Vedas and the six schools of philosophy (darśanas). Yet you come swiftly (लवलाहीं) to reach your devotee. जय० cues the refrain. The 1910 reprint misprints भवनीं as भवमीं and reads ते for तें; the 1878 readings are kept.

Verse 3

Prasanna Vadane Prasanna Hosi Nijdasa || Klesha Pasun Sodi Todi Bhavpasha ||
Ambe Tuj Vanchun Kon Purvil Aasha || Narhari Tallin Jhala Pad Pankajkosha || 3 || Jaydevi ||

With a gracious face you become gracious to your own servant. Free him from his afflictions and cut the noose of worldly existence. O Amba, without you, who will fulfil my hope? The last line is the signature: Narahari has become absorbed in the lotus-cup of your feet (पद पंकजकोशा). जयदेवी० cues the refrain. The aarti is popularly attributed to Samarth Ramdas, but every print inspected here signs it नरहरि and none prints it among Ramdas's works, so Valkala presents it as traditional, with the signatory named. Freedom from affliction and from worldly bondage is the devotee's prayer, not a guaranteed result.
