Verse 1
Ghalin Lotangan, Vandin Charan | Dolyanni Pahin Rup Tujhe || 1 ||
Preme Alingin, Anande Pujin, Bhave Ovalin Mhane Nama || 2 ||
Sant Namdev's two-line abhang opens the closing prayer. The devotee says: I will fall full length before you and bow at your feet; with my eyes I will see your form. With love I will embrace you, with joy I will worship you, and with devotion I will wave the lamp before you, says Nama. The sung text follows the 1919 sangrah print; the 1894 edition of Namdev's abhangs, where this is abhang 833, reads अनंत पूजीन ('I will worship the Infinite') instead of आनंदें पूजिन, a difference disclosed here rather than blended. Falling prostrate is the devotee's own expression of surrender, not a ritual rule; many people simply bow.
Verse 2
Tvameva Mata Cha Pita Tvameva | Tvameva Bandhushcha Sakha Tvameva ||
Tvameva Vidya Dravinam Tvameva | Tvameva Sarvam Mama Devadeva || 2 ||
You alone are my mother and you alone my father; you alone are my kinsman and my friend. You alone are my learning and my wealth; you alone are my everything, O God of gods. This Sanskrit verse is verse 28 of the Pandava Gita, where it is spoken by Gandhari; the sung text here agrees word for word with the 1906 Khemraj print of that hymn.
Verse 3
Kayena Vacha Manasendriyairva Budhyatmana Va Prakritisvabhavat ||
Karomi Yadyatsakalam Parasmai Narayanayeti Samarpaye Tat || 3 ||
Whatever I do with body, speech, mind or senses, with intellect or with my self, or from the bent of my nature, all of it I offer to the Supreme, saying 'to Narayana'. The verse comes from the Bhagavata Purana (11.2.36), where the sage Kavi teaches King Nimi in the third person: whatever one does, following one's nature, one should offer it to Narayana. The sung form, as the 1919 print gives it, turns this into the devotee's own first-person offering (करोमि, समर्पये) and reads प्रकृतिस्वभावात् where the Bhagavata has अनुसृतस्वभावात्. The print's spelling बुध्यात्मना stands for बुद्ध्यात्मना ('with the intellect'). These differences are disclosed, not corrected.
Verse 4
Achyutam Keshavam Ramanarayanam Krishnadamodaram Vasudevam Harim |
Shridharam Madhavam Gopikavallabham Janakinayakam Ramachandra Bhaje || 4 ||
I worship Achyuta, Keshava, Rama, Narayana, Krishna, Damodara, Vasudeva and Hari; Shridhara, Madhava, the beloved of the gopis, the lord of Janaki, Ramachandra. This is the first verse of the Achyutashtakam, which the 1912 Brihat Stotra Ratnakara ascribes to Shankaracharya; the whole hymn is on Valkala's Achyutashtakam page. Only this one verse belongs to the sung sequence. The 1919 print has हरिं and रामचंद्र where the stotra print has हरिम् and रामचंद्रं; the first is only a spelling of the same sound, and the second drops the case ending. Both are kept as the controlling print has them and disclosed.
Verse 5
Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare |
Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare ||
The sequence closes with the chant of sixteen names, calling on Hare, Rama and Krishna. Hare is commonly read as the vocative of Hari (the Lord) or of Hara (his divine energy). The 1913 Nirnaya Sagar print of the Kali-Santarana Upanishad gives the chant in exactly this order, with the Rama half first, and calls it the remover of the Kali age's faults; that is the Upanishad's statement, not a promised result. The 1919 print gives the chant no number, so the 5 on this page is Valkala's.
