Ram Darbar Placement: Photo, Shrine and Facing
Choose a secure place for a Ram Darbar picture or set, distinguish shrine location from facing, and compare contemporary advice without a fixed height rule.
झटपट सार · Hindi and Hinglish summary

Place a Ram Darbar picture or set in a clean, secure prayer space where the complete composition is visible and accessible. The checked contemporary guides favour a north-east location, with east as an alternative. The shrine's position, the front of the picture and your own facing are separate decisions. A rented or shared room may need a different usable arrangement; devotion does not become invalid because of a direction.
Classical statement: a location for the shrine
Brihat Samhita 53.118 assigns the Devas' room to the north-east. This verse does not specify a Ram Darbar photograph's wall, the arrangement of individual figures or a hanging height. The home temple direction guide explains the wider shrine-location question.
Contemporary guidance: shared location, different viewing contexts
Siddhhi Arts and Cipher Spaces favour north-east and accept east. Siddhhi discusses seated viewing and east- or north-facing prayer. Cipher's painting article describes an east-wall, west-facing image and standing viewing height. These are contemporary recommendations with different contexts, not a universal sacred measurement.
For someone directly before a frontal picture on the east wall, the worshipper faces east while the picture faces west. Cipher's phrase about the family praying “from the West” describes their position in the room, not west-facing prayer. Its north-east-wall recommendation also does not by itself determine a cardinal facing. We keep those distinctions explicit rather than turning a wall label into an exact ritual instruction.
Practical note: a picture and a separate-figure set need different support
For a picture, check the frame's weight, wall condition and hanging hardware. Use a fixing suitable for that wall and leave the frame clear of a door's swing. A large frame that cannot be fixed securely is less usable than a smaller image supported properly. In a rented room, use an existing secure support or an arrangement permitted by the owner rather than improvising a heavy overhead mounting.
For a set of figures, check that every base sits fully on the surface. Leave enough room to clean and reach each figure without knocking the next. This page gives no mandatory left/right sequence: viewpoint labels and transmitted arrangements need their own evidence. Preserve an inherited or installed set's arrangement and ask the family, temple or teacher responsible for it before changing it.
Choose the height from how the household actually prays
Look at the full composition from the usual seated or standing prayer position. Make sure the central image and surrounding figures remain visible without repeatedly bending or stretching. Different people may use the same shrine, so allow comfortable access rather than following a single number taken from a decorating article. The entire frame or base must remain supported, even if that means choosing a different available surface.
Keep a book or phone stand within reach without resting it against the image. If a lamp is used, place it on a stable heat-resistant surface away from the frame, cloth and other combustible materials; never leave the flame unattended. A placement page does not require a lamp or daily offering. Use the aarti practice guide for the separate practice.
Use a respectful small-home fallback
If north-east is occupied or inaccessible, keep a clean, secure devotional place compatible with your household's custom. Room restrictions in contemporary articles are not evidence that a family's one-room arrangement invalidates worship. This guide does not prescribe renovation, replacing an existing picture, ritual installation or a purchase. It also makes no claim that the placement changes family relationships.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which direction should a Ram Darbar photo face?
The checked guides favour north-east or east locations. An east-wall frontal picture faces west, opposite an east-facing worshipper. A location label alone does not establish a universal facing rule; follow your established household practice.
Is there a fixed height for Ram Darbar?
No sacred height is established by the cited verse. Choose secure support and comfortable visibility from the actual prayer position; seated and standing arrangements differ.
Does this guide prescribe the order of separate Ram Darbar figures?
No. Preserve an inherited or installed arrangement and ask the tradition responsible for it before changing figure positions.
