What is Jai Lakshmi Ramana (Shri Satyanarayan Aarti)?

Jai Lakshmi Ramana is the aarti of Shri Satyanarayan, sung at the close of the Satyanarayan katha. This page gives the complete refrain and eight couplets exactly as printed in the 1930 Marwadi Bhajan Sagar, with a fresh Roman reading and original Hindi, Roman-Hindi and English meanings. Later prints vary in spelling and in the closing signature line; this is one documented edition, not a claim of a single universal text.

Complete selected edition

The text follows item 1056, “Shri Satyanarayanji ki Aarti”, on printed page 708 of Marwadi Bhajan Sagar, compiled by Raghunath Prasad Singhania and dated 1930 in its Digital Library of India record. The print gives the refrain once, as the tek, and then eight numbered couplets; the whole aarti fits on one page and the next item begins straight after it. The refrain is customarily sung again after each couplet. Spellings such as वाजै, वामन, वनके, दुर्वल and वनमें are kept as printed, since this print often has व where modern Hindi writes ब.

Story behind the verses

The couplets recall episodes of the Satyanarayan katha: a poor Brahmin’s changed fortune, a wood-seller, a merchant who forgot his vow, and a king who worshipped with cowherds. The aarti calls one king Chandrachud. The separately sourced Satyanarayan Vrat Katha on this site names its kings differently, and the two are not forced to agree. Read the katha page for the full narrative.

Authorship and other editions

The aarti is presented as traditional. The 1930 anthology credits its contributors elsewhere but gives no credit for this item. Its closing signature differs between prints: “bhanat Mansukh” in 1930, “Bhagatdas” in one modern booklet and no name in another. None of these identifies a known person, so no author is claimed. Prosperity and fulfilled wishes are the hymn’s devotional hopes, not guaranteed results, and no offering, count, fast or purchase is required.
