Puja outline

  1. Check the date for your tradition: the stored New Delhi references differ by a day. Do not infer a universal date or parana window from the main date card.
  2. Choose prayer with or without fasting according to your health needs and medical advice. No waterless fast or overnight vigil is required here.
  3. Clean the prayer space and use an existing Vishnu or Krishna image if you wish; no purchase is required.
  4. Offer available flowers or tulsi as a household custom, without treating any material as compulsory or medicinal.
  5. Read one complete Vishnu prayer. The three linked readers are optional choices, not a required sequence or exact Kamika ritual formula.
  6. If lighting a diya, keep it attended and extinguish it safely before leaving or sleeping. The source's day-and-night lamp praise is not an instruction to leave a flame burning.

Which date should I follow?

The stored New Delhi reference names 29 July 2027 for Smarta and 30 July for Vaishnava observance. These are tradition-labelled alternatives, not two mandatory fasts. Elsewhere the date can differ by a day; check your own panchang. This page gives no puja or parana clock time.

What chapter 54 actually contains

Krishna answers Yudhishthira by recounting Brahma's response to Narada. The chapter praises Vishnu worship, tulsi offerings and lamps through devotional-merit comparisons. It is a discourse on the observance's greatness, not a household protagonist's story. This original brief overview does not reproduce the chapter or claim a complete katha reader.

A wording difference in the inspected witnesses

The online Sanskrit witness's opening verse says the bright fortnight, while its verses 3 and 5 and closing chapter title identify the dark fortnight. The English witness renders the opening as dark. This difference is disclosed without silently editing either witness. The hub follows the stored Shravana Krishna calendar scope; the wording is not used to invent a second bright-fortnight Kamika date or to replace Devshayani.

Tulsi, lamps and bounded claims

The source praises tulsi, vigils, lamps and religious merit. Its disease-removal, liberation and ancestral-reward language belongs to its sacred framework, not a medical, protection or guaranteed-afterlife claim. No ritual substitutes for medical care or accountability for harm. Tulsi is optional here; no purchase, donation scale, vigil or unattended lamp is prescribed.

What was freshly checked

The date record retains its 29 September 2026 Drik Panchang, Prokerala and AstroSage evidence, including the Drik-supported Vaishnava alternate. AstroSage's year-specific New Delhi page was freshly inspected on 3 October and corroborates 29 July. It does not independently verify the 30 July alternate or constitute a fresh two-source recheck. Neither source timestamp nor calendar date has been changed.
