(Pitru Paksha)

For New Delhi's North Indian calendar, Pitru Paksha's Krishna-paksha observance begins on Thursday, 16 September 2027, cross-checked in Drik Panchang and Astrology Divine. The preceding Purnima Shraddha observance is separate. Sarva Pitru Amavasya closes the period on 29 September. Your ancestor's individual shraddha date is not automatically the period's first day; follow the relevant tithi and your family's calendar.

When is Pitru Paksha?

The ancestral-remembrance fortnight in Ashwina Krishna paksha in the North Indian purnimanta calendar. The stored start is Pratipada Shraddha, not the preceding full-moon observance or an individual's shraddha appointment.

Dates can differ by a day in other places and traditions. For your city, check a local panchang or your temple calendar.

What to read

Puja outline

  1. Check a panchang for your city and distinguish the period's first day from your ancestor's individual shraddha tithi.
  2. Speak with your family about its remembrance customs. A specialist ritual should follow the family's own tradition and qualified guidance, not this short outline.
  3. Set aside a quiet moment to remember deceased relatives, their lives and what you learned from them.
  4. If you wish, read one complete devotional text linked below. These are optional reading choices, not prescribed shraddha mantras.
  5. Offer practical help or food to someone in need if it is within your means. Do not treat purchases, donations or expensive ceremonies as guarantees of an outcome.
  6. Keep remembrance accessible: fasting, river travel and a lit flame are not required by this household outline. Respect health needs and local water-safety rules.

A simple household outline. Customs differ by family, region and tradition; follow your own tradition or priest where it differs.

Which start does this page show?

The date list shows checked start and closing observances, not every individual's shraddha tithi. The start is Krishna paksha, labelled Ashwina Krishna Pratipada in the North Indian calendar. Drik Panchang's New Delhi annual calendar names Pitrupaksha Begins on this day; Astrology Divine's New Delhi September calendar names Pratipada Shraddha on the same day. A full-moon ancestral observance immediately before the fortnight is a separate boundary, not a conflicting date for the same Pratipada observance.

Purnima and the closing Amavasya

Astrology Divine's New Delhi calendar lists Purnima Shraddha separately before Pratipada Shraddha. A separate Purnima Shraddha date is not published here until it has its own two-source check. The existing two-source Sarva Pitru Amavasya record gives 29 September 2027 as the closing observance. The general Ashwina Amavasya date in the monthly calendar is 30 September; these are different observance rules, not a reason to replace the shraddha date silently. Local calendars and family customs still matter.

A personal remembrance day is not a generic festival date

This page does not determine an individual ancestor's shraddha tithi, eligibility or ritual procedure. Ask your family or temple for its practice and location-specific calendar. The optional household outline is Valkala's practical editorial guidance, not a scripture transcription, a complete shraddha manual or a promise about the deceased's afterlife.

Reading without inventing a katha

No standalone Pitru Paksha katha is published here because a complete reusable source account has not yet been cleared. The linked readers are complete devotional options for a quiet remembrance session. They are not presented as the prescribed ritual texts for shraddha, and this page does not invent a Karna narrative or assign it to a scripture without evidence.

Frequently asked questions

When does Pitru Paksha begin in 2027?

Thursday, 16 September 2027 is the New Delhi North Indian Krishna-paksha start, cross-checked in Drik Panchang and Astrology Divine. The full-moon shraddha observance immediately before it is separate.

When does Pitru Paksha end in 2027?

Sarva Pitru Amavasya is on Wednesday, 29 September 2027 for New Delhi, according to the existing Drik Panchang and Prokerala record. Do not substitute the general Amavasya calendar day of 30 September for this shraddha observance.

Why do some lists start before Krishna paksha?

Some lists also include the preceding Purnima Shraddha. That full-moon observance has a wider boundary than the Krishna-paksha start shown here. Its separate date is not published on this page until it has its own two-source check.

Is the first day everyone's shraddha date?

No. The period's start is a calendar boundary, not a personal ritual appointment. The relevant ancestral tithi and your family's tradition need to be checked separately.

Are the linked prayers prescribed shraddha mantras?

No. They are optional complete devotional readings for remembrance. This page does not replace specialist ritual guidance or promise spiritual outcomes.
