What is Jai Jai Tulsi Mata / Tulsi Aarti?

Jai Jai Tulsi Mata is the Hindi aarti sung to Tulsi, the sacred basil revered as Vishnu’s beloved, especially at Tulsi Vivah and Dev Uthani Ekadashi. This page gives all six stanzas as printed in an undated Mathura booklet, with Devanagari, Roman transliteration and original Hindi, Hinglish and English meanings.

Text and source

The text follows page 22 of Ganga Lahari, a booklet published by Bharat Prakashan Mandir, Mathura. The booklet carries no print year. Its scan was digitised by eGangotri and stamped CC-0; that mark is the digitiser’s declaration for the scan, not a record of rights in the lyric. The aarti names no author and is presented as anonymous and traditional. It was read twice from the page image and compared with an undated Anand Prakashan Arti Sangraha.

Variants and corrections

Printed booklets differ. The Anand Prakashan booklet opens “Jai Tulsi Mata, Jai Tulsi Mata” and reads Bahu Patri (“many-leaved”) where this print has Bahupatni; later prints have Batu Putri. These readings are shown as variants, not blended. Three type faults in the Mathura print are corrected and disclosed: a blank where the म of Shyama did not print, दर for तर, and तुप for तुम. The repeated refrain is written out in full each time.

Claims note

Lines about protection from illness, crossing worldly existence and receiving prosperity are devotional praise within the hymn. They are not medical advice or promised outcomes.
