Devshayani, Ashadhi and Chaturmas
Devshayani is Ashadha Shukla Ekadashi, the bright-fortnight observance also called Ashadhi or Hari Shayani. Devotional tradition connects Vishnu's rest with Chaturmas and distinguishes it from the Kartika awakening associated with Dev Uthani. This hub is a household prayer introduction, not a temple programme, pilgrimage timetable or complete Chaturmas manual.
Vamana and Bali: a short chapter summary
Padma Purana, Uttara Khanda chapter 53, answers Yudhishthira through Krishna's account of Vamana and Bali. Bali remains devoted as Vamana assumes a cosmic form and sends him to the lower world. The chapter describes one divine form staying with Bali and another resting on Shesha in the ocean until Kartika. This original short summary is not a copied translation or complete katha reader.
The chapter's Kamika wording
The inspected Sanskrit and English witnesses use Kamika within their Ashadha bright-fortnight discussion. That wording is retained as a source feature, not silently corrected or used to change the calendar. The separately stored Kamika Ekadashi occurs on 29 July 2027 for the New Delhi Smarta reference; it is not this 14 July Devshayani entry. A complete reader would need to document this wording and its other edition details separately.
Source practices are not universal instructions
The chapter includes vigil, floor-sleeping and month-specific food exclusions alongside religious-merit assurances. Those features belong to the inspected text; this page does not prescribe them or promise their outcomes. A short household prayer is not presented as ritually equivalent to every formal vow. Family and temple practices may differ, and this page sets no universal ban on ceremonies or ordinary duties.
What the date check supports
The existing 14 July 2027 New Delhi Smarta record was checked on 29 September 2026 against Drik Panchang, Prokerala and AstroSage. AstroSage's year-specific Ashadhi page was freshly inspected on 3 October and agrees; this corroboration does not change the original evidence timestamp. Dates can differ by a day in another location or tradition. No local puja, shayana or parana clock time is published.
