नारद उवाच।
प्रणम्य शिरसा देवं गौरीपुत्रं विनायकम्।
भक्त्या व्यासः स्मरेन्नित्यमायुःकामार्थसिद्धये॥१॥

nārada uvāca |
praṇamya śirasā devaṃ gaurīputraṃ vināyakam |
bhaktyā vyāsaḥ smarennityamāyuḥkāmārthasiddhaye ||1||

English meaning: Narada said: Bowing the head to the god Vinayaka, son of Gauri, Vyasa should remember him every day with devotion, for the attainment of long life, desires and wealth. This follows the 1912 print, which names Vyasa here; the widely recited text reads bhaktāvāsaṃ instead, “him who dwells among his devotees”, and does not name Vyasa. The verse names long life, desires and wealth as the aims of remembrance.

Roman Hindi meaning: Narad bole: Gauriputra dev Vinayak ko sir jhukaakar pranaam karke, Vyaas bhakti se pratidin unka smaran karein, taaki aayu, kaamna aur dhan ki siddhi ho. Yeh 1912 ke mudrit paath ke anusaar hai, jismein yahaan Vyaas ka naam hai; prachalit paath mein iske sthaan par bhaktaavaasam hai, arthaat bhakton mein nivaas karne vaale, aur usmein Vyaas ka naam nahin hai. Shlok aayu, kaamna aur dhan ko smaran ke uddeshya bataata hai.

What is Shri Sankat Nashan Ganesh Stotra?

Sankat Nashan Ganesh Stotra (“the hymn that destroys troubles”) is an eight-verse Sanskrit prayer in which the sage Narada teaches twelve names of Ganesha, from Vakratunda to Gajanana. Its closing verses describe the traditional fruits of reciting it; this page presents them as the text’s own statements, not guaranteed outcomes.

What the stotra contains

Verse 1 is Narada’s instruction: bowing to Vinayaka, son of Gauri, one remembers him daily. Verses 2–4 list the twelve names: Vakratunda, Ekadanta, Krishnapingaksha, Gajavaktra, Lambodara, Vikata, Vighnaraja, Dhumravarna, Bhalachandra, Vinayaka, Ganapati and Gajanana. Verses 5–8 are the phalashruti, and a closing colophon names the work. The print opens with the invocation “Shri Ganeshaya namah”, which is not counted as a verse; the colophon is shown separately and is not counted either.

Source, attribution and the verse 1 reading

The text follows the complete stotra printed on page 28 of the public-domain Brihat Stotra Ratnakara (Nirnaya Sagar Press, 1912), where it is titled Sankashtanashana Ganesha Stotra. The work is spoken by Narada, and its colophon places it in the Narada Purana; that is the traditional attribution carried by the text, not a chapter reference established by this page. In verse 1 the print reads bhaktyā vyāsaḥ, naming Vyasa, where the widely recited text reads bhaktāvāsaṃ; this page keeps the printed reading and gives the common one in the meanings.

How to read the promised benefits

The phalashruti says that reciting the twelve names at dawn, noon and dusk removes the fear of obstacles, grants learning, wealth, sons and liberation, bears fruit in six months and attainment in a year, and that writing the hymn out for eight Brahmins brings learning. Each meaning reports these as the text’s traditional statements, not guaranteed results or timelines.
