Krishna use Yogini batate hain aur paap-kshay, mukti tatha sansar-sagar mein doobe logon ke liye naav ke roopak se uski prashansa karte hain. Phir ve ek Puran-katha kehte hain. Alaka mein Rajaraj Kuber Shiva-bhakti mein lage rahte hain. Unke liye phool lane wala sevak Hemmali hai aur uski patni Vishalakshi hai.
English meaning: Yudhishthira asks Vasudeva about Ashadha's dark-fortnight Ekadashi. Krishna names Yogini, praising release from sin and liberation and likening it to a boat for people immersed in worldly existence. He introduces an ancient account. In Alaka, Kubera, called Rajaraja, is devoted to Shiva. His flower attendant is Hemamali, whose wife is Vishalakshi.
After collecting flowers from Manasa lake, Hemamali stays home, absorbed in his wife's company and unaware of the time. Kubera waits for the flowers at midday while worshipping Shiva in the shrine. He repeatedly asks the yakshas why the attendant is late. They report that Hemamali is at home with his wife. Angry Kubera summons him immediately. Frightened at the delay, Hemamali arrives without bathing. Kubera's anger increases and he calls this neglect of divine worship.
The delay and marriage belong to a character account, not a rule blaming a wife or justifying humiliation of workers. Devotional praise is not an assured promise of liberation or improvement in life.
Roman Hindi meaning: Yudhishthir Vasudev se Ashadh ke Krishna paksh ki Ekadashi ka naam poochhte hain.
Kuber Hemmali ko atharah prakar ke kushth se ghirne, patni se alag hone aur apne sthan se hat jane ka shap dete hain. Paath ka aage ka sthan-sambandhi shabd spasht nahin hai; yahan usse Prithvi ya kisi nishchit lok ki nayi yatra nahin banayi gayi. Katha mein Hemmali sthan se girta hai aur bahut dukh tatha sharirik peeda sahta hai. Din mein sukh aur raat mein neend nahin milti; chhaya aur garmi dono mein kasht hai. Shiva-pooja ke prabhav se uski smriti bani rahti hai aur vah apna purana kaam yaad karta hai.
Bhatakte hue vah Himadri pahunchkar tapasvi Markandeya ko dekhta hai, jinki aayu granth Brahma ke saman batata hai. Vah door se pranam karta hai. Muni use kanpte dekhkar madad ke liye paas bulate hain aur uski peeda tatha nindit avastha ka karan poochhte hain. Hemmali apna naam, Kuber ki seva, Manas se pratidin kamal lana aur Shiva-pooja ke samay dena batata hai. Vah patni ke saath rahne mein ek din samay bhoolne, kruddh Kuber ke shap, beemari aur alagav ki poori baat sveekarta hai. Achchhe logon ki sahayata-bhavna par vishvas karke margdarshan mangta hai.
Kushth aur uske atharah roop pracheen katha ki shabdavali hain, kisi vartaman vyakti ka nidan nahin. Beemari naitik dosh, vaivahik prem ya shap ka praman nahin hai. Peedit vyakti ki garima aur avashyak chikitsa bani rahti hain; katha ka samajik apman ya dand aaj ke vyavahar ka aadarsh nahin.
English meaning: Kubera curses Hemamali with eighteen forms of kushtha, separation from his wife and removal from his position. The following destination wording is unclear; no new journey to Earth or another definite world is manufactured from it. In the story he falls from his place and suffers deep distress and bodily pain. He has no daytime ease or nighttime sleep and suffers both in shade and heat. The text attributes his retained memory to Shiva worship, so he remembers his former work.
Wandering to Himadri, he encounters the ascetic Markandeya, whose lifespan is compared with Brahma's. He bows from a distance. Seeing him tremble, the sage calls him closer to help and asks about his suffering and condemned condition. Hemamali explains his name, service to Kubera, daily lotuses from Manasa and their delivery for Shiva worship. He acknowledges forgetting the time while with his wife and describes Kubera's anger, curse, illness and separation. Trusting good people's readiness to help, he asks for guidance.
Kushtha and its eighteen forms are ancient narrative vocabulary, not a diagnosis of a present-day person. Illness is not proof of moral fault, marital affection or a curse. A suffering person's dignity and necessary healthcare remain intact; social humiliation and punishment in the story are not models for present-day conduct.
Roman Hindi meaning: Kuber Hemmali ko atharah prakar ke kushth se ghirne, patni se alag hone aur apne sthan se hat jane ka shap dete hain.
Yeh muni ka kathanak ke bheetar aashvasan hai, pathak ke liye beemari ka upchar-vachan nahin. Hemmali dandavat girta hai; muni use uthate hain aur vah harshit hota hai. Katha mein unke nirdesh se vrat karne par atharah roopon ka kasht door hota hai aur Hemmali sukhi hota hai.
Krishna isi prakar Yogini-vrat ka varnan poora karte hain. Iske baad adhyay 52 ka alag samapan-vakya Umapati-Narad samvad mein Ashadh Krishna Yogini ke mahatmya ko naam deta hai. Tatkal samvad Krishna-Yudhishthir ka hai. Chayanit adhyay sukh aur rahat par samapt hota hai; Kuber ke paas lautne ya Vishalakshi se punarmilan ka alag drishya ismein nahin hai.
Katha se chikitsa chhodna, bhookha ya pyasa rahna, raat bhar jagna ya bahut logon ko bhojan karane ka anivarya aadesh na nikalein. Bhojan, pani, aaram aur zaroori upchar uplabdh rakhein. Shap, svasthya-sudhar aur punya dharmik katha ke daave hain, nishchit chikitsa-parinam ya peedit vyakti par dosh nahin.
English meaning: Markandeya says that because Hemamali spoke truth rather than lies, he will teach him an auspicious observance. He names Ashadha's dark Yogini and promises that its merit will remove kushtha. This is the sage's assurance within the narrative, not a treatment promise to a reader. Hemamali prostrates; the sage lifts him up and he is delighted. Following the advice in the story, he observes the vow, the eighteen forms of suffering disappear and he becomes happy.
Krishna concludes the account, comparing its merit with feeding eighty-eight thousand dvijas. Great sin is said to be quieted, great merit obtained and reading or hearing praised as release from sin. A separate chapter-52 colophon names Ashadha's dark Yogini within Umapati–Narada framing. The immediate dialogue remains Krishna–Yudhishthira. The selected ending reports relief and happiness; it contains no separate scene of return to Kubera or reunion with Vishalakshi.
Do not extract commands to abandon healthcare, withhold food or water, stay awake all night or feed a huge required gathering. Food, water, rest and necessary treatment remain available. Curse, recovery and merit are claims in a religious narrative, not assured clinical outcomes or grounds to blame a suffering person.

Controlling edition and comparison
The complete Wikisource API wikitext revision 336433 was read in full and compared with the whole Wisdomlib Sanskrit presentation and grouped English chapter. The original adaptation uses Wikisource's CC BY-SA 4.0 basis; modern translated prose is comparison-only, not copied. No independent print collation, rendered Wikisource inspection or expert review is claimed.
Selected-source limits
Ancient kushtha and its eighteenfold description remain source vocabulary, not a modern diagnosis or a fasting cure. The awkward svapnam wording in verse 15 is not silently converted into an established earthly destination. The selected ending states relief and happiness, not a separately narrated return to Kubera or reunion with Vishalakshi.
Hardship is not moral blame
Supernatural events, sin, recovery, restoration and afterlife destinations belong to the source's religious account, not guaranteed outcomes. Illness, poverty and bereavement do not establish moral fault. Food, water, rest, hygiene and necessary treatment remain available; no fast, vigil, purchase or gift is required. Social labels do not justify present-day discrimination, servitude or family coercion. Dates remain on the linked festival hub.
